Canoe and Adventure Race – Basic Safety and Rescue courses

Canoe and Adventure Race – Basic Safety and Rescue courses

This course will focus on equipping Adventure Racers and Canoe Racers with a basic knowledge of Swiftwater Safety and Rescue. The aim is to allow competitors to understand how rivers work, recognise features and cope with hazards so as to avoid unnecessary risk to themselves and their teammates and fellow paddlers.

Safety and Resue Course for Canoeists

We have recently completed a course for Canoe South Africa, training Safety officers from various WCCU clubs. This course was held on the Palmiet River and delt with issues like Foot entrapment, Strainer rescues and basic Rescue Techniques.

In addition, they will be equipped with some basic rescue techniques so that should problems arise, they will be equipped to deal with them. Finally, paddling techniques and racing tips for various craft & conditions will be touched on. The information will be presented in both theory and practical format and a course booklet will be provided. A recommended reading list will also be supplied. Successful candidates will receive a certificate from the African Paddling Association. Candidates are also welcome to join the APA but this is not mandatory.
